About Me

David James is the founder of GEM Planning. He is the most senior of GEM’s planners and has been working in the industry since 1999. He believes that personalized service is essential when matching clients with the right financial security products and services. His life’s work has been built on helping people achieve their goals. For over 30 years prior to and whilst building his financial planning career, David worked as a professional swimming coach. His greatest enjoyments in life have always been centred around helping others to achieve their goals. David studied successfully as a mature aged student and achieved his Certified Financial Planner (CFP) status in 2004 and currently studying for his Master’s in Financial Planning. David has been married to his wife Gaynor for over 35 years and together they have two boys. David and Gaynor became Grandparents for the first time in 2019 and in the blink of an eye now have three gorgeous Granddaughters. David is an active Life Member of the Grange SLSC and continues to have roles in the continuous development of this club. He also participates in the sporting side of Surf lifesaving and has been involved as an official and member of the Surf Sports Advisory Board.
